Oblivious Awareness Empty Oblivious Awareness

Post by misguided ghost Mon Mar 19, 2018 8:01 pm

I have tasted oblivion; and I have touched nothingness.

It was neither whole nor empty. It was definitely cold.
It was dark; and it tasted of dust. It slipped through my fingers like a cloud; it was half-air, and half-water, and yet it seemed like it was neither. I was not grounded, but I did not feel unbalanced. I thought I was freezing; I was sweating. It was as if everything and nothing had collided and created a phenomenon less comprehensible than the Big Bang.
I got there because I had read too many books and was afraid of too few things.

Honestly, I've never really been into crime, but Green Arrow made it seem so cool. I planned it all out, hacked into a secret military database, and figured out what I was going to do. They had some majorly swanky pieces of machinery that I was itching to get my hands on.
Step one was to get as close as possible to the base without being detected.
Harry Potter had used a magical cloak; I had the next-best thing: stealth and a blanket. I tracked any and all deliveries scheduled within my time-frame, and sneakily got myself into the back of one when the drivers stopped for gas and snacks. The blanket went on, and step one was complete.
Step two was getting in.
The goods were thoroughly examined upon arrival, but not thoroughly enough, I suppose. I'm not actually sure how I made it past step two, I was literally taking a nap until I woke up in the base.
Step three had been to slither out of the truck and make my way to the second floor. That was when I got caught.
Step four was supposed to be getting to and packing up the aforementioned machinery. Instead I woke up in a dark room and Sauron forced himself into my mind.
"What is your name?"
"Ged."
"Wait- like the Wizard of Earthsea?"
"Quiet, Lieutenant!"
"Sorry, sir."
Step five would have been sneaking into a loaded outgoing truck. Obviously, that wasn't how it went.
"We could try the new mind-wiping equipment on 'im. 'Aven't 'ad much of a chance, yet."
"He does know a lot about the goings-on in this place. I say we try it."
"Alright, I'll go tell Welsh to set it up."
Step six was getting out of the car at the right gas station and back into my own vehicle waiting there. That one definitely wasn't happening.
I was strapped to a new chair and my eyes were covered. Suddenly, reality vanished and was replaced by all-consuming absence.
Step seven had simply been to drive home. This part actually did happen.
I was just driving the long way home from a trip to New York that had been pretty successful. I went to Central Park, a couple museums, and probably a bar or more. I must've gotten totally wasted, because I seemed to remember blacking out in a really eerie and unusual manner. I was both aware and not aware of it when I was out, and it gave me a little queasy feeling when I thought of it.
When I got home, there was no sign of my computer, and my Ursula K. Le Guin books had gone missing as well.
